Here is why -
The Protection of Race and Religion Committee (Ma Ba Tha) held its congregation on 29 April in Einmei Township in Ayeyardawdy Region. The two-day event was first gathering of Ma Ba Tha after the last November elections.
Such congregations were not held after the election result gave overwhelming victory to the National League for Democracy (NLD) but observers noted they were resumed recently in Einme Township. A provocative pro-Bamar nationalist song “Batha Thwe” was played on loudhailers at the event.
The second night of congregation included a sermon by Myanan Monk, who is famous for his anti- Muslim rhetoric.
Members of Islamic community said they are worried for as provocative songs such as Batha Thwe and others like “if needed we will use our bones to fence off against penetration by other religions” which were played at the beginning and the end of the congregations.
In an incident on 19 April, Maluvi Aung Naing was pressurized to close down a religious teaching class at his home by ward administration. The 16 students who were doing religious studies during their summer holidays have loss opportunity to learn religious studies.
