The Monk supervisory body, the State Sanga Maha Nayaka Committee, has urge Ma Ba Tha, Myanmar acronym for the Association for Protection of Race and Religion to abide by the rules prescribed for the monks. Ma Ba Tha role was came up for discussion during the supervisory body’s plenary meeting held on 7 March. Bandata Uttara Tharya, a monk from Chan Myae Aung monastery in Kalay Township has proposed to the meeting that group like Ma Ba Tha whose objective is to protect Myanmar national race should exist. After his proposal was heard the meeting urge Ma Ba Tha to abide by the rules for monks. The supervisory body said the monk committees should operate under the prescribed basic rules and also under existing laws. The monk supervisory committee announced in July 2016 that Ma Ba Tha was not established according to the prescribed rules for the monks. Reference: Myanmar Cable New (MCW)
