Preparation to respond renewed terror attack in Maung Taw

The spokesperson for the State Counsellor Office U Zaw Htay said the government has stepped up security measures in response to possible renewed terrorist attack in Maung Taw in Rakhine State. He said in a media briefing in Nay Pyi Taw marking the completion of the government led by the National League for Democracy (NLD). U Zaw Htay said the government have intelligence for possible attack. “We are doing all preparations to prevent attack. He said even though the government has formed an advisory committee led by a former UN secretary general Mr Kofi Annan to advice on resolving the crisis in Rakhine state the attack took place last year. He said the attack on border outposts in Maung Taw were designed to disrupt the process to find solution to the problem in peaceful manner. He said local youths were trained to help the police as the police is in small numbers in the region. They are working together with the military on security measures. The government said an Islamic militant group Harakal ul Yakin (Faith Movement) has carried out attacks on the three outposts of Myanmar security forces on 9 October 2016. Myanmar military carried out area cleaning operation after the attacks. The government said 69 Rohingyas and 17 security forces were killed in the attack. It said 528 Muslims were arrested and under investigation for their suspected role in terror attacks. Among them eight people were killed.
